Helen Esther Kinsey, 92 of Erie, MI, died Tuesday, October 7, 2014, in Hickory Ridge of Temperance. Born April 16, 1922, in Monroe, MI, she was the daughter of Albert and Bertha (Lahs) Rathke. She attended Bridge School and was a 1940 graduate of Dundee High School. She married Maynard Kinsey on June 15, 1940. He preceded her in death on June 21, 1994. Helen was employed as a teachers aid for Mason Consolidated Schools for 15 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Temperance for 70 years, where she had taught Sunday School, Bible School and was a greeter. Helen loved her church, reading, sewing, and playing games with her grandchildren.
Helen is survived by her loving children; Larry (Karon) Kinsey, Linda Riley, Sharon (Jerry) Welton, and Garry (Anita) Kinsey. Brother, Richard (Dorothea) Rathke and sister, Cora Salo. Grandchildren; Barry (Kelly) Kinsey, Brandon (Julie) Kinsey, Tarry (Amy) Kinsey, Dean Yarger, Ned (Shelly) Yarger, Robert (Laura) Welton, Krystin (Jim) Weeks, DeeAnn (Jack) Burns, Tracey (Richard) Laaksonen, Shelly (Kraig) Anderson and Carrie (Shane) Larrow and 27 great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Viola Pope and Margaret Younglove and Son-in-law, Frank Riley.
Visitation will be from 2-8 pm Friday, October 10, 2014, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 11, 2014, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 9144 Lewis Avenue, Temperance, MI, where she will lie in state after 10:00 am.
